Effective Examination Preparation with DU SOL Study Material
The act of securing DU SOL study material is not a sufficient condition for proper preparation. The most important is how the study material is utilized. The best practices include:
Best Practice 1 – Study Unit by Unit, Not Chapter by Chapter
In contrast to the textbooks that are divided into chapters, the DU SOL SLMs are divided into Units. Each Unit is divided into Self Study Units with Self Assessment Questions. Read only one Unit, and complete the Self Assessment Questions without looking at the answers. The completed Self Assessment Questions will be reviewed. This practice of Active Recall has a higher retention capability compared to the traditional reading method of Passive Recall.
Strategy 2 – Integrate SLMs with Previous Year Question Papers
After completing a unit of the DU SOL study materials, find previous years’ exam questions related to that unit. The question papers show a pattern. The same topics and types of questions are repeated. The best way to prepare for the exam is to solve the previous years’ papers with the respective unit fresh in your mind.
Strategy 3 – Prepare Unit-wise Study Notes
While studying the DU SOL materials, prepare condensed notes on each unit that include important definitions, theories, and other key items. Short notes are easier to revise than unit study materials that have been compiled in PDF form.
Strategy 4 – Answer the In-text Questions and Focus on Summaries
Each unit in the DU SOL study materials has a summary and a set of in-text questions at the end. The summaries act as a guide for examiners as to what is key in the unit. Candidates should examine the summaries as they highlight what needs to be included in the exam answers.
Be careful: Refrain from downloading the DU SOL study materials from unofficial websites, Telegram groups, or WhatsApp forwards. Study materials from these sources may be old, erroneous, or not in line with the current DU SOL syllabus. Always download from the official portals — pragyan.du.ac.in, col.du.ac.in/v1, or sol.du.ac.in.
